A dynamic website developed in Squiz Matrix designed to attract and engage.
The brief
The Department of Primary Industry and Resources (DPIR) engaged Captovate to build a new website that will assist DPIR to attract investors and explorers to the Northern Territory. The brief was to create a website that:
- attracts new clients
- provides insights and relevant information on projects and explorations
- truly captures the interest of investors and explorers
- is modern and enticing
The Northern Territory is considered a āhot spotā at the moment for resource exploration and investment within Australia, and the new site needed to reflect this. Squiz Matrix was chosen as the customisable development platform as it is the Content Management System used by the Northern Territory Government.
THE RESULT
Captovate created a website that is interactive, bold and informative. The website is high quality and professional with a modern look and feel. The colour yellow was selected as the main colour as it is synonymous with the mining industry and it’s important to leverage this when marketing Resourcing in the Territory. To commence the project we undertook the following:
- Website planning sessions involving three stakeholder workshops – identified user personas
- Information architecture and wireframing – conducted a card sort exercise
- Graphic design – incorporating user experience design
- Created functional requirements documentation
In Squiz Matrix our developer was able to optimise content for optimal user experience. The interactive Google maps are a key feature of the Resourcing the Territory website which provides greater visual appeal. Our developer used a custom javascript in Squiz Matrix that hooked into an API to create the map display. The maps allow the user to filter on the type of mineral commodity as well as the status so potential clients and investors can select the project status (such as āOperating mineā or āUnder feasibilityā).
On the mineral commodity pages clean and functional icons provide a quick snapshot of the key information relating to the commodity. The information is up to date reflecting the latest production figures and value of production which is of great importance to potential investors and explorers.
We worked with DPIR throughout to ensure the website met their requirements, a side navigation was added to improve the user experience. We made a key feature of the links and tools, giving them prominence on the homepage. The Iām dynamic publishing workflows within Squiz Matrix allow for easy content management. Using the SEO-friendly metadata and automatic indexing within Squiz allows us to engage with the right audience.
The maps provide the user with a quick visual display of the Northern Territory resourcing landscape with Satellite view and complex map overlays to provide the user with a view of the regions.

Through having clarity around your target audience we can ensure that the content within the digital space resonates with the right people. It is understood that DPIR have a diverse set of clients, but the digital space should be reflective of the characteristics of the core demographics
